The site focuses on browser-based EXIF privacy and provenance workflows. That makes reproducibility more important than volume. This page explains how we document tests, when we add visible review dates, and why some routes stay noindex until they have enough original evidence.

Corrections and reproducible issues belong in the contact workflow. We update visible dates only when the page content or testing notes materially change.

Editorial rules for guide updates

We do not use review dates as generic SEO freshness markers. The date changes only when a guide receives a material correction, a new workflow check, or a rewritten explanation that changes what a reader should trust.

  • Privacy and provenance claims must be visible on-page, not hidden in schema or metadata only.
  • Evidence-backed guides show a tested date when the claim depends on a specific platform, browser, file export, or validation result.
  • Generic utility pages stay out of search until they include real examples, limitations, and internal links that help users finish a complete workflow.

What we correct quickly

Some issues age badly and get fixed ahead of ordinary content refreshes.

  • Broken tool instructions or unsupported format claims.
  • Out-of-date platform behavior after a documented retest.
  • Overstated provenance language that implies certainty.
  • Missing limitations when a result depends on one browser path.

Test methodology

When a guide claims that a platform strips metadata or that a validator reports a specific provenance state, the article should explain the sample, environment, steps, and failure cases.

Sample

Use harmless JPEG, PNG, or WebP samples that contain controlled EXIF or C2PA fields. Avoid real personal photos, live coordinates, or user identifiers.

Environment

Document the browser, operating system, export path, and any platform setting that changes what metadata survives. Prefer current stable browser releases and direct downloads over screenshots.

Steps

  1. 1. Record the original metadata fields or Content Credential state before changing the file.
  2. 2. Run the documented browser workflow, export, or platform upload with named settings.
  3. 3. Compare the downloaded or edited file against the original with the local toolset.
  4. 4. Publish only the behavior reproduced during that run, with the test date visible on the guide.

Limitations

  • Platform behavior can change without notice, so results are dated observations rather than universal guarantees.
  • Re-encoding, screenshots, or social sharing may destroy metadata in ways that differ by device and app version.
  • Absence of C2PA or AI metadata does not prove a file is human-made or authentic.

Scope of these guides

EXIFDataView guides explain what the browser tools can inspect, remove, or verify. They do not replace forensic review, legal chain-of-custody work, or server-side platform telemetry that readers cannot independently inspect.

When a future guide includes original lab results, it should link back here and expose its own test date, methodology notes, and limitations next to the claims they support.
